Studies in the Synthesis of Hippuric Acid in the Animal Organism. Ii. the Synthesis and Rate of Elimination of Hippuric Acid after Benzoate

چکیده

The question of the extent of the ability of the human organism to detoxicate benzoic acid by conjugation with glycocoll and elimination as hippuric acid in the urine has frequently been raised. Lewinsk? observed in the urine of men to whom 12 to 20 grams of benzoic acid had been given in small doses during t,he course of twelve hours, neither free benzoic acid nor benzoyl glycuronates. With larger doses of from 25 to 40 grams, small amounts (up to 26 per cent of the intake) of free benzoic acid were present in the urine, which was also dextro-rotatory and contained reducing substances, i.e., glycuronates. Thus with large doses, up to 20 grams of benzoic acid, the conversion to hippuric acid was found to be practically quantitative. Brugsch3 and Tsuchiya4 were unable to confirm the work of Lewinski and recovered only 22 to 48 per cent of the ingested benzoic acid (4 to 24.6 grams) as hippuric acid. Dakin5 found that benzoic acid taken by men in doses of 5 to 10 grams per day underwent a practically complete conversion to hippuric acid before elimination in the urine. No free benzoic acid could be detected in the urine. In none of these experiments was any difference between the free acid and the sodium salt observed.

Studies in the Synthesis of Hippuric Acid in the Animal. Organism. v. the Influence of Amino-acids and Related Substances on the Synthesis and Rate of Elimination of Hippuric Acid after the Adminis- Tration of Benzoate.*

The problem of the origin of the glycine available for hippuric acid synthesis after the administration of benzoic acid or its salts has been studied by many investigators with varying results. It should be borne in mind, in this connection, that all species of animals do not react similarly in response to the ingestion of benzoic acid. Thus the organisms of man (l), the rabbit (2), the goat (3...

Graphene–ZnO@SiO2 hybrid: An efficient and solid acid catalyst for synthesis of azlactones under ultrasound irradiation

The central theme of this article is how to explore a novel route to fabricate graphene– ZnO@SiO2 hybrid by a covalent process. The synthesis procedure consists of three-steps: (1) synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles, (2) ZnO nanoparticles modification by tetraethyl orthosilicate and (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane after introduction of amino groups on its surface, (3) the covalent attach...

Evaluation of Toluene Exposure in Workers at Industrial Area of Sidoarjo, Indonesia by Measurement of Urinary Hippuric Acid

Background: Toluene is a harmful substance still being used as a solvent and catalyst in many industries that can increase the level of urinary hippuric acid (UHA). This study was designed to examine the level of toluene and UHA among workers of industrial site in seven companies in Sidoarjo, Indonesia and to analyze the risk factors for abnormal UHA. Methods: This study was an analytical cross...

The Site of the Synthesis of Hippuric Acid and Phenylaceturic Acid in the Dog*

At present the view is commonly accepted that hippuric acid is produced chiefly by the kidney in most animals and exclusively by that organ in the dog. This conclusion is based largely on the well known work of Bunge and Schmiedeberg (1) who were able to dem0nstrat.e that hippuric acid was formed when blood containing benzoic acid and glycine was perfused through dog kidney. Furthermore, they f...
